PULCINELLA
"Travesti"

Ferdinand Doumerc - saxophones, flutes, metallophon
Florian Demonsant - accordion
Jean-Marc Serpin - double bass
Frédéric Cavallin - drums, percussions

It is not a a random choice to skip into the skin of the famous Pulcinella … Embracing, in a polyglot speech, musics from here and there, Pulcinella plays a popular, rich, and alive music. With a theatrical gesture the band creates an atmosphere close to the tales universe. It takes from the circus the taste of the exploit, from the whodunit the sense of the intrigue, from the whim, the whim.

Pulcinella is a French band which has been practicing for almost 6 years a very special blend of jazz, tango, musette, rock, free... relocated jazz. With all the saxophones, double-bass, accordion, drums, percussions, metallophone, melodica, glockenspiel and others piston flutes, Pulcinella is a quartet pretending to be an orchestra.
With an original and different sound, powerful concerts and a surprising acting direction, Pulcinella has seduced a wide public range made of music lovers, overstepping the borders of styles and keeping in mind the main jazz value : being a popular music
Gathered at the end of 2004 by the saxophonist Ferdinand Doumerc, Pulcinella walks its iconoclastic music from Toulouse to Paris, from Brest to Agadir, from Bayonne to Bucarest, from Genève to Saint-Louis du Sénégal, from Rome to Odessa…

"With an original and different sound, powerful concerts and a surprising acting direction, Pulcinella has seduced a wide public range made of music lovers, overstepping the borders of styles and keeping in mind the main jazz value : being a popular music."
Monique da Costa

"Subtle arrangements, a beautiful writing, a skillful orchestration, and big attention carried during the solos interventions make the quality of Pulcinella’s work, and the formidable welcome which reserves them the experienced audience [...]"
Philippe Méziat, Jazz Magazine

"[...]Poetic and demonstrative whim, having a walk on the borders of a strange universe (…), their music pulls us in a kind of soft and barbaric witchcraft [...]"
Jean Marc Gelin, Jazzman

"The members of this surprising group are all excellent instrumentalists, they compose and\or arrange with a big technicality but never to the detriment of their themes and solo’s bright legibility. Some pinches of theatralized and funny direction improve their direct and strong relation with the listeners (of any ages and any obediences)."
Pierre-Henri Ardonceau, Jazz Magazine
