Marty Cook, born in Long Island, New York, has been working professionally since the age of 19. He was active in the so-called New York „Loft Jazz" scene of the 70’s. He has worked with a.o. Monty Waters, Sam Rivers, Jackie Byard, Barbara Dennerlein, Annette Peacock . Particularly fruitful was his collaboration with Jim Pepper. The Penguin Guide to Jazz states: „Cook has considerable qualities as both soloist and leader: bright articulation, inexhaustible ideas, sharp arrangements, and an impressive structural awareness." His new group includes his long-time partners Ed Schuller and John Betsch and features the exciting bass clarinetist Rudi Mahall and the powerful piano of Aki Takase.
